Julio is a male, white-breasted waterhen. This beautiful creature hatched in my garden and has been coming into my house ever since he was a fluffy little black chick.
He and his mother would sneak in and steal the dog’s food out of his bowl,
and when his mother left Julio stayed.
He’s not exactly tame but he’s bold as brass and very curious.
I now put down a bowl of rice grains for him. Mind you, he’s a fussy bird, he won’t eat red rice, black rice, brown rice or in fact any imported rice, just the local Balinese white rice – the same crop that grows in the neighbouring fields.
