Rachel..... Have Laptop will Travel

Welcome to my website!

Yes, that’s me in the photo: ‘Have laptop, will travel… and write stories.’ I wanted to be a travel writer from when I was a little girl and now I’m truly living my dream.

I’m a seasoned freelance writer / photo journalist from England, resident in Asia since 1998, with as many years of experience in the writing of feature stories and travel articles for tourist and lifestyle magazines and websites, as well as content for guidebooks about the beautiful islands of Bali and Lombok. In fact, I’m something of an expert on ‘all-things Bali’ – I’m in love with the Balinese culture, environment, attractions, art and architecture, and more than familiar with the island’s many hotels and resorts, villas, spas, restaurants, shops, nightlife, tourist activities and destinations. I have a considerable portfolio of stories and photographs published in English-language tourist publications, entertainment and lifestyle magazines, newspapers, guidebooks and books originating from the UK, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and the US.

I’m also an experienced copyeditor and proofreader, helping to polish books, manuscripts and magazine articles before they hit the shelves. Additionally, I write press releases, brochures, website text, and other marketing material, and I thrive when I have a range of challenging projects.

I love to write about art and artists, and another of my specialties is the promotion of hot properties and luxurious villa holiday accommodation.

Travel, however, is my greatest passion, and this is reflected in my destination stories, personal essays, articles, columns, photos and blogs. I hope my travel tales make people think “I want to go there” or conversely, “that’s the last place I’d want to be”. Over the years I’ve visited a whole host of exotic destinations: glorious beaches, remote islands, mountain retreats, rainforests, tiny traditional villages, painted deserts, and vibrant historical cities. Travelling by numerous forms of transport, I’ve been privileged to have stayed in some of the world’s most glamorous accommodation, as well as in some of the grottiest! One of my current travel projects is the exploration of the far flung reaches of Indonesia – with over 18,000 islands in the archipelago, it should keep me going for a very long time.

Oh yes, and I’m currently working on my first novel.

I hope you will enjoy browsing my site and reading some snippets about my travels, my life and my passions. Have fun!
